I had the gauge cluster replaced in my 97 540iA at the only Utah dealer last week under the BMWNA replacement program. I noticed while driving home from the dealer that the airbag light was on, so I called them about it. They indicated it had been on, just not lit on my old cluster (bulb burned out). I asked if they had diagnosed what the problem was (since they had done so with a few other things) but they said no they hadn't. I was a little frustrated that they had failed to even mention such an important safety concern to me.
The next day I drove down to Los Angeles to visit my parents. While visiting, I had a local indy shop pull the codes. They didn't tell me the exact code, but said it came up as 'Firing Circuit - PP.'
Can anyone tell me what that exactly means? I'm thinking it obviously means there is a fault in the firing circuit, but for which airbag? Is this something only the dealership can diagnose? Or could I get a Peak Diagnostic Tool and DIY it? Thanks for any help. Sorry about your frustration with the dealer. You think they would see the airbag light as an opportunity for $$$s and spend a few minutes to see if they could find the problem and then hit you with a quote!

I asked my independent mechanic but he said only the dealer can pull the code for the airbag light. He can pull all others. Is this correct? If so, I probably have the same issue as you guys. Does anyone have the price quote to correct this?
There are two DIY tools for airbags: the Peake SRS tool and the Autoenginuity code reader with BMW module. You can read about them on the manufacturer's web sites.
The most common cause for the airbag light is the passenger seat mat sensor. The other common cause is working on anything remotely related to the SRS system (such as seats or perhaps instrument cluster) without first disconnecting the battery.
I have recently replaced a window regulator on my 2002 325i sedan. While doing so i unplugged the side airbag without first disconnecting the battery. I ended up with an airbag light on in the instrument cluster. I have purchased the Peake SRS reset tool, but i'm unable to reset it becuase of the fault - 'airbag firing circuit'.
I have since rechecked all the wiring and the airbag is plugged in fine and everything is in place. Any ideas on how to get rid of the airbag light or how to fix this 'airbag firing circuit'? Anyone else have simmilar problem?
